When Can We Climb Again?

As the spring-like weather starts to melt out the snowpack in the Sierra Nevada, we’re getting excited for the upcoming sun-drenched climbing season. While our team is currently doing our part to shelter-in-place in the fight against COVID-19, we are also making plans looking forward to summer adventures. As soon as conditions allow, we’ll be reopening the Tahoe Via Ferrata to be your first option to get back to playing in the mountains of Lake Tahoe.

Developing Updated Operations Plans and Making Private Options Easier

Our operations team has been working diligently on plans to open cautiously with a socially distant version of the Tahoe Via, while our sales team has simultaneously made changes to our activity pricing to make climbing in a private group more accessible.

A climber keeping her distance from others.

In our socially distant version of the Tahoe Via, we have plans to keep climbers at least 6 ft apart, everyone will be given gloves that they can take home with them, and your guide will also be wearing gloves and a mask. As with everything these days, we’re keeping a close eye on health recommendations and will adhere to those parameters to maintain health and safety standards.

We understand it may be uncomfortable to join an open enrollment group and climb with people you don’t know, so we completely rebuilt our private tour pricing structure and slashed rates on private groups. This makes it easier to climb with your immediate family and close contacts, instead of mixing in with a public group. This new pricing is valid through the 2020 season.

When will we be open?

As far as re-opening goes, we’re keeping a close eye on what our local and state government recommends, and we’re optimistic that we can be back to climbing the Tahoe Via Ferrata as soon as mid-May. With substantial changes to how we operate to be respectful of social distancing recommendations, we strongly believe that getting outside with family will be a healthy and safe way to get rid of the pandemic blues.
